What are the advantages of biaxially oriented polyester film?

Biaxially oriented polyester film is a high-performance plastic film produced through a specialized process, falling within the plastic products segment of the broader rubber and plastics industry. Its core characteristics-including high strength, tear resistance, excellent water resistance, and high transparency-make it widely applicable in industrial sectors requiring high material toughness, such as packaging, protective applications, and composite material substrates.

Technical Principles and Structural Composition
Biaxially oriented polyester film utilizes PET (polyethylene terephthalate) as its base material, employing a biaxial stretching process to create an ordered molecular structure. This process applies simultaneous tension in both the longitudinal and transverse directions, causing the film's molecular chains to become highly oriented along both axes, thereby significantly enhancing the material's mechanical properties. Its transparency stems from the controlled crystallinity of the PET material, while its water resistance relies on the film's dense surface structure, which effectively blocks the penetration of water molecules.

Core Performance and Industrial Applications
The film offers three standout advantages: first, superior tensile properties, with tear resistance three to five times higher than that of ordinary films, making it suitable for applications involving repeated bending or tensile stress; second, high toughness and resistance to breakage, maintaining stability even in low-temperature or dynamic stress environments; and third, excellent water resistance, with a surface water absorption rate of less than 0.1%, providing long-term protection against moisture. In industrial settings, it is frequently used for heavy-duty packaging, protective layers for electronic components, and reinforcing substrates for composite materials.

Material Innovation and Process Improvements
Building on the R&D achievements of Liye New Materials, the production process for the new generation of biaxially oriented polyester film has been further optimized. The biaxial stretching technology allows for thickness uniformity control within ±2%, while molecular-level modification has enhanced the material's weather resistance. Compared to conventional films, it offers a 40% improvement in impact resistance and maintains stable performance across a temperature range of -40°C to 120°C, meeting the demands of extreme environments.

Usage Precautions and Safety Guidelines
During handling, direct contact with sharp objects should be avoided to prevent surface scratches that could compromise water resistance. The material should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated environment at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent degradation. Due to the film's high toughness, specialized cutting tools and protective gloves are recommended during cutting to prevent injury. For industrial applications, the appropriate thickness should be selected based on specific requirements; specifications ranging from 0.05 mm to 0.3 mm generally meet most needs.
