Characteristics Of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) Film

Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film  offers advantages such as light weight, non-toxicity, lack of odor, moisture resistance, high mechanical strength, good dimensional stability, excellent printability, and high transparency. It is characterized by high clarity, good gloss, effective barrier properties, high impact strength, and low-temperature resistance. Its main drawback is a tendency to shrink during heat sealing (with the exception of heat-shrinkable cigarette packaging films, which utilize this property). Its overall performance surpasses that of moisture-proof cellophane, polyethylene (PE) film, and PET film. BOPP film also delivers excellent printing results.

Representative physical property data include: haze <1.5%; gloss >85%; tensile strength (machine direction/transverse direction) >120/200 MPa; elongation at break (machine direction/transverse direction) <180%/65%; elastic modulus of 1700–2500 MPa; and embrittlement temperature of -50°C.
