Physicochemical Properties Of Cast Polypropylene Film

CPP film is a type of film made from unprocessed polypropylene; also known as non-oriented polypropylene, it is sometimes abbreviated as CP (Cast Polypropylene). Its chemical composition typically consists of 81.5–88.5% polypropylene, 10–15% polyolefin elastomer, 1–2% silicon dioxide, and 0.5–1.5% erucamide.

CPP film offers good transparency, high gloss, uniform thickness, and consistent properties in both the machine and transverse directions; compared to OPP film, it possesses higher tear and tensile strength. It is stiffer than polyethylene (PE) film and provides excellent barriers against moisture and odors, though it becomes less durable at low temperatures and has lower impact resistance.

CPP film features high heat resistance (120–130°C) and excellent heat-sealing properties. While it offers excellent transparency, it is not quite as clear as OPP film. It typically features a multi-layer structure; a common three-layer configuration consists of a heat-seal layer, a core (support) layer, and a corona-treated layer.

Compared to other films such as LLDPE, LDPE, HDPE, PET, and PVC, CPP film offers lower production costs and higher output. It is versatile, serving as a base film for composite materials and allowing for metallization; it also provides excellent visual appeal when used for food, merchandise, and outer packaging.
